Identify a shooting star ...

Out of thousand over companies, it remains a challenge to catch a shooting star in the mist. A shooting star is one stock that will run regarless how is the index perform and most of the time they will out perform the market by many folds. Eg 3A, this stock price at 0.10 cent on sep06 shoot up to 0.43 cent by Jul07, then up and down within 0.25 to 0.40 from Jul 07 til Jul 09. From Aug09 til Oct09, the share price went up from 0.43 to 1.67, a whooping abt 250% return in 2 months.
My best past performer was Insas-W, from 0.135 , sold 0.425, 203% return ..

Currently, am holding a few porfolio which I hope will spearhead againt the market soon. This are infact "gems" that are not to be missed in this up cycle ...

Major correction around corner ?

How to identify if there is a major correction around the corner ? On analysis part, most down turn occur preceded with unusual high volumn. On that note, current volumn is relatively low. Having say that, there is no doubt some counter had in fact trend down even before the KLSE. As such, need to monitor and evaluate overall piture before get trap in a bear downturn.

The swine flu opportunity ...

If you are interested in the US market and looks for blessing in disguise counter and of cause if u hv USD$$ in plenty, below five companies make swine flu vaccine for the U.S. market:

1) AstraZeneca's
[AZN 46.16 -0.14 (-0.3%) ]
2) MedImmune unit, CSL
3) GlaxoSmithKline
[GSK 39.44 -0.59 (-1.47%) ]
4) Novartis
[NVS 45.30 -0.19 (-0.42%) ]
5) Sanofi-Aventis
[SNY 33.94 0.06 (+0.18%) ]

.
CSL and Sanofi have started U.S. trials and several companies, including Glaxo, have trials ongoing in Europe. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration will license the new vaccine as a "strain change" from seasonal influenza — treating it as the usual annual reformulation of the annual flu vaccine.
Pandemic H1N1 is circulating widely and experts expect it to get worse in the Northern Hemisphere's fall as schools get under way. The council's report says the virus, although moderate, poses a serious health threat to the United States because it is likely to infect so many people.

Bursa CL

Some education on buying the proxy of a mother share
BURSA-CL >= 0.60
Maturing date = 09/06/2010
Conversion ratio = 5 : 1
Conversion price = 5.00
BURSA price now = 7.8
Calculation Assume you buy 1000 at 0.6, 5,000 share = 0.6*1000*5 = 3,000
Conversion price = 5,000
Total cost = 3000 + 5,000
= 8000
BURSA price now = 7,800
Premium = 8,000 - 7800 = 200

If the price of BURSA moves 1.00 from 7.8 to 8.8, the price of BURSA-CL will also move accordingly ...
The return on mother share from 7.8- 8.8 = 12 %.
If the CL move to match the fair value of 8.8, the new price is approximately 0.76, which is an increase of 0.16 (0.76-0.6), the return is 0.16 = 26%, more than double the return

In a bull market, there is always an urge to enter the market cheaply via a proxy of a mother share to maximise profit. The return is magnify many times but the risks as well when the market turn against you. Also, the expiry date is another factor to consider. Your holding can become zero when reaching the expiry/maturing date, in another words, you can't hold this kind of share for long.
You must always think of an exit criteria when you buy into proxy.

The begins of the 2nd wave ...

From observation and feedback from the market floor, the 2nd wave of a very young bull had just started. Just week before it, there are some technical analyst predict the US market will crash and hence send a ripple effect to the rest of the world market. However, the US market is doing the reverse and broke all the technical reading. In fact, major regional market had been in limbo for weeks only to see some light now for a start of a super bull run if the prediction is correct moving forward. I am looking closely to Hongkong Market now, apparently, the 2nd best performing market in the world after US. Apparently, some thot the US and those from the West had lost its shines and Asian leading by China will take on the roles in moving the world market now. I wish I could write and share my thot more and hence make this blog more interesting and lively ...

Take profit or hold ...

Recent movement of KLCI and regional burses raise question to many investor, should I aim for short term profit or long term investing. A multimillion question that most investor ask and yet to found a good answer.

The fact that icap investment strategy on value investing is more on long term profit, it did took profit when a portfolio hit full valuation like Digi and some met with uncertainty like corporate excersice. However, as I remembered, some of its portfolio like mieco invested in 2002 and 2003, price ranging from 1.3 to 1.5 after corporate exercise, did not exit all when the share price reach an all time high at 3.20 only to see the price dip till 0.30 recently. Sometimes, it is all about psycology and the action you have taken.

Also, there is a school of thot in the market on exit and cut lost strategy. By reading a tool, one exit or enter the market so that to stay relevant always in the market. Not sure the profit or loss incur on it.

"Blue Chip" in Mesdaq

Recently, had the opportunity to meet up with the CEO of Exel force, Jeff Wang in the Co AGM. To be surprise, he is really a hands on CEO, basically knew what his company product from head to tail. I had an opportunity to seat with him after the AGM and posted a few questions to him.
1st on local progress and expansion, and then on competitors either local or foreign. According to him, there is no direct local competitor except for n2n. It seems to him N2N is not perform well as per annual report which posted losses for the past quarter. Foreign competitor not able to come in due to cost factor, as such not a treat as of now. There are 18 stock broking house and 6 banks using excel force back office and Jeff is very confident it can get more to its plate looking at the more liberalise SC rules moving forward. I noticed too that more and more stock broking are using excel force as their online trading platform. It seems to me they are gaining market share moving forward.
On oversea expansion, apart from Thailand and Singapore, it is now looking to expand further in Vietnam and Indonesia. The future looks promising minus how fast it can expand base on its scarce resources of 50 as of now.
As to the company's employee is concern, he did annual exam on them on their progress and apparently asked those had failed the exam to reconsider their position in the company. Well, it sounds good to a growing company but to the staff there, it is really pressurize.
I asked him about future product features. He said there are lots more in the pipe line to be launched soon in a few months times, program buying and selling features is one of them. Many will mirror those from US stock broking house.
I asked him despite a profitable track record but the share price did not really match its profit. His thot is to move the company to the main board to make the company more visible to investor. Also, some future earning distribution at 50% of net profit as dividen may make the company looks more attractive.
Overall, am quite satisfy with those answer from the CEO although had more questions to ask ..

The start of a correction ...

Last week KLCI had started to move down substantialy from its peak. A number of investors had infact made a handsome return from this round. On average, they had made around 40% within 2 months, exited from KLCI and is holding hard cash now.
The challenge now is to spot when this correction over and how to catch the up wave again.
Some said the A(H1N1) effect is started to make significant impact to world economics already. The spread of the virus at major airports around the world constitude a decline of travellers. A friend of mine just return from USA. She is saying, the folks there just not bother about the flu thingy and it is life as usual. Having say that, I noticed that, our mainline media aspecially, Sin Chew, had been publishing the news almost daily for the past 1 months.
The regional indexes also seems heading south ... hope to be able to catch the up swing again this round ....

What industry is running against the KLSE ?

Today, the star news paper quote, rubber industry or to be precised the glove makers out perform the KLSE many folds during the SARs outbreak. Looking at similarity to current A(H1N1) outbreak, it seems there is truth in it. Notice tht some glove maker like supermax share price double from 0.80 in Mac09 went up to 1.6 in May09 within 2 month ... if the H1N1 outbreak out of control, these are the couunter worth looking at ...

Starts of the end to 1st wave .... ?

is the correction set in already for KLSE ? In fact the CI seems loosing steam. Having say that, some stocks had in deed subside from peak but some are still challenge the high from its high. Eg, OSK is loosing steam while KNM is still moving higher high ... short term investing is all about testing your greed and fear in a volatile market. That is the gist of the game regardless if it is a up or down market. But for longer term investing, it is just a non issues. The term buy low, sell high is always there, the most important questions is when ? and how much is yr greed and fear is .. overall, the trend is up ...

The challenge ahead ...

Investing in share market is all about "when" u enter and exit from the market. If u r a trader, the decision to make is crucial in very up and down cycle. If u made the right decision to enter or exit where yr decision is align to the market movement, u will make profit, else u will just miss the boat and will not hv the guts to get in again.
The movement of klse currently is very much base on world market . If u do not have time to look around to what is happening, u might as well leave yr investment in the market to be revisited in a longer interval time period. Else the challenge to keep looking at the market will be very tiring and exhausted unless you have the time and passion.

1st wave ....

KLSE and the regional market had a great moved for the past 1 month ever since the call to enter the market. The 1st wave of such move will surely subside. The question mark is when will be this wave subside or what the market term as correction. The reading from my own research is telling me, for short term investor who has the time to look out for market movement, the immediate short term target of KLSE is 1040 and it will correct to flush out the fearless, then it will resume with the 2nd wave ...

US Confidence Index Rises Most Since 2005 ....

The Swine Flu may have punctured the upward trend of the world market and hence a start of a major correction. However, having said that, the situation need to be closely watch if it can be contained in a shortest time frame. The past experienced by major asia countries may help to speedily contain this outbreak.

History revisited .... the birds flu and the SARS outbreak ..

Bird Flu (2003-2005)and the SARS (2002-2003) outbreak

The Bird Flu outbreak began in April 2003 in the Netherlands and begin spreading fast to
Asia by mid 2003. The spread of the bird flu reached critical mass in 2004-2005 where it
spread to mainland China where 6,300 wild birds died in April 2005 within weeks. The SARS
outbreak begin in 2002 in Guandong, China with its last case reported in 2003.
